About Messier-Dowty

Messier-Dowty, now known as Safran Landing Systems, is a French company whose operations entail the design, development, manufacturing, and support of all types of aircraft landing gear, wheels, and brakes. The company is the world’s largest producer of aircraft landing gear, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Safran SA.

The company’s history can be traced to the establishment of a 1995 joint venture between France’s Messier and England’s Dowty Group, which was then owned by TI Group. Messier-Dowty was purchased by SNECMA group in 1998. The 2005 merger between SNECMA and SAGEM made Messier-Dowty part of the Safran company. In May 2011, the merger of Messier-Dowty, Messier Bugatti, and Messier Services brought the creation of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty. In 2016, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty became Safran Landing Systems.

Safran Landing Systems operates many facilities throughout the world, in areas such as Asia, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The workshare is split between all locations, typically with each facility focusing on a different aspect of landing gear design, manufacture, and support. The company’s main headquarters are in Velizy, France, a suburb of Paris. The company’s projects are split into two business units: Airbus & European Programs, and Boeing & North American Programs.
