About Kato Engineering Inc.
Kato Engineering was founded in 1926 as a producer of rotary converters. Their products found instant popularity and were widely used in radios as well as devices such as ships, military tanks, and more. Soon after, Kato produced their first synchronous alternator, the first American company to offer this product. During the second World War, the company provided more than 10,000 generators for the US Ordnance Department to support the war effort. Following WWII, Kato produced a full line of brushless generators and shifted focus to supplying generators for Original Equipment Manufacturers. During the 1980s, the company developed a medium/high voltage insulation system for use in the oil and gas industry. These systems were used as a drill rig solution with form-wound coils, glass insulate rotor wire, and targeted high safety factors. Since then, the company has continued to expand and grow its product portfolio. The company is now a division of Nidec Electric Power Generation.
