About Rexnord

The company was first founded as the Chain Belt Company in 1892 by Christopher W. Levalley, along with F.W. Sivyer and W.A. Draves. Seeking to capitalize on the recent development of the diesel engine, Levalley and his associates produced chain belts to replace the leather ones used in machinery and agricultural equipment. By 1894, the Chain Belt Company was exporting its products overseas to Europe, and opened a sales office in England. Throughout the early 1900s, sales continued to improve and the company began to grow, investing in developing new products and methods and reaching new markets.In 1987, Rexnord was acquired by Banner Industries, reshuffling some of the company’s assets and subsidiaries in the process. Through a series of mergers, acquisitions, and name-changes, Rexnord eventually wound up as the operating subsidiary of The Fairchild Corporation. Rexnord focused primarily on industrial and military markets, while Fairchild served the commercial aviation industry. By 1991, the company was a leading manufacturer of mechanical power transmission components, with its products used in food and beverage processing, aerospace, construction, energy, and agriculture. Rexnord was acquired by BTR PLC at roughly $420 million dollars, merging the company with one of BTR’s subsidiary. Rexnord currently consists of two main divisions: Process and Motion Control, which focuses on industrial gears, drives, conveying systems, controls, and associated software, and Water Management, which focuses on plumbing components for commercial, industrial, municipal, and institutional settings.
