About Embraer

Embraer is a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate and manufacturer of commercial, military, executive, and agricultural aircraft in addition to providing aeronautical services and solutions. They are the third largest producer of civil aircraft in the world, beaten only by Boeing and Airbus. Aircraft produced by Embraer include the EMB 202 Ipanema, 314 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, AMX attack jet, Legacy 500, and the ERJ & E-Jet families of aircraft. The company was founded in 1969 when the Brazilian government created Embraer as a government-owned corporation. For its first years of existence, Embraer sold only to the domestic market. In 1975, the company began producing military aircraft, and in 1985, Embraer debuted the EMB 120 Brasilia, a twin-engine turboprop commuter airliner.

Due to financial instability, Embraer began privatizing in 1992. The company was sold to private investors in 1994 to avoid bankruptcy. Despite this, the Brazilian government retained interest through golden shares, which provide veto power. The company continues to develop and produce military, commercial, and civilian aircraft to this day.
