About Hitachi
The company was founded in the year 1910 when Namihei Odaira, an electrical engineer, produced Japan’s first 4-kilowatt (5 hp) induction motor. What started as an in house venture of the Fusanosuke Kuhara's mining company in Hitachi, Ibaraki, the company gradually moved to Tokyo. After a few years, Hitachi underwent development as a result of , it underwent several drastic changes as a result of reconstruction efforts from the second world war and in 1949, eventually went public. Hitachi America, Ltd was established only five years later. Hitachi officially stopped producing televisions in 2012 and later that year acquired the UK based nuclear energy company Horizon Nuclear Power. Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries merged thermal power energy businesses into a joint venture with 35% going to Hitachi and the remainder going to the latter. Currently Hitachi is known worldwide as a multinational conglomerate operating in eleven business segments, those being railway & urban systems, electronic systems & equipment information & Telecommunication systems, social infrastructure, high functional materials & components, financial services, Power systems, automotive systems, digital media & consumer products, construction machinery and other components & systems.
