About Cisco

Cisco’s story began in 1984 when Stanford University employees Sandy Lerner and her husband Leonard Bosack began an initiative to use technology on the Stanford campus to link all the school’s computers to communicate with one another. A year after the company’s formation, Bosack and Kirk Lougheed, a fellow Stanford employee, began to network the campus’ computers. In 1987, Bosack and Lougheed left the university and Cisco later went public on the NASDAQ in 1990. Their first products and services included routers for multiple network protocols and their IOS. Through the early 1990’s, Cisco began acquiring multiple businesses, expanding upon their operational capabilities.
