About IBM
International Business Machines Corporation, most often referred to as IBM, is an American multinational technology company that excels in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, computer hardware, and computer software. IBM was first formed in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR) and their initial operations consisted of the manufacturing, selling, and leasing of machinery. When NCR’s Thomas J. Watson, Sr. was scouted for a position at CTR, he quickly worked his way up to President. With his experience, CTR was rapidly revolutionized as sales increased greatly. In 1924, CTR rebranded themselves as International Business Machines.
With their technology and expertise, IBM spent much of the early to mid 1900s assisting the US government and other countries with maintaining and tracking records through tabulating equipment. As the company continued to assist in governmental affairs, they also developed and released technology that benefited the military, NASA, and other such entities. As some of their biggest achievements, IBM created the first practical artificial intelligence, released the Universal Product Code, and developed their first computer system during the 20th century.
Leading into the present, IBM has continued their long development of artificial intelligence technologies, recently focusing on their implementation for various applications. Additionally, IBM has also set their sight on acquiring more businesses to expand upon their operational capabilities. Most recently, IBM has acquired businesses such as The Weather Company and Red Hat.
